Joe Panzetta is a Vashon Island based multi-instrumentalist, composer, and singer. He performs original songs on guitar, banjo and harmonium, singing melodic ballads with a signature percussive guitar style. Joe also leads mantra concerts with the kirtan band, Mandali, and is in the midst of collaborating with choreographer/poet Dominique Gabella (Next Stage Dance Theatre) on the multi-media project "Short Stories for Long Life".
Panzetta has been recording and performing music since 1989 and has released 7 Cds. His musical ventures range from singer-songwriter/folk rock ("Songs" 2010, "little big sky" 1995 and "everything else" 1998), and world/folk ("migration" 2007) to mantra ("sat sangeet" 2010).
Originally from Philadelphia, Joe's first band was formed at Marquette University in Milwaukee, where he and Peter Mulvey fronted Big Sky. Panzetta released his debut solo album "The Ocean Shows The Sky" in 1993, and in '97 released the reunion disc, “Little Big Sky” with Mulvey. In 1998 Joe teamed up with Michael Hayes and released the “Everything Else” EP, and in 2007 Panzetta released “Migration” which featured many guest performers including Miles and Karina, Peter Mulvey, and Andy Santospago.
His first of two 2010 CDs “Sat Sangeet” combines his passions for music and meditation in 9 tracks of mantra from the Kundalini yoga, Hatha yoga, and Buddhist traditions. Featuring the tabla prowess of Ravi Albright, guitar from Vincent Gates, and Panzetta’s first ventures into instruments such as the harmonium, bouzouki, and tamboura, the sonic landscape is rich, relaxing and powerful. "Songs" released December of 2010 was recorded live in the studio on just guitar and voice and features 10 compositions from 1987 to 2009.
Panzetta is also a graphic designer and has been the Creative Director at Atigeo, a Bellevue based software company since 2008. Joe lives on the north end of the island with his fiancé, her daughters, and Lily the dog.
